It has been a while since my last update.
We were pretty much slap bang in the middle of our 13 month closure due to the covid pandemic.
On the 26th of April 2021 we reopened our doors and have been flat out, fully booked since!
We have went from strength to strength and are now looking for our first permanent team member to join us!
It should be a very exciting time for us!
However, there is a huge shortage of therapists, across the whole of the UK.
Which is making the recruitment process a very difficult one.
Covid has ended many therapists career in the beauty industry.
Either by them being made redundant from their job. Or by them having to close their own businesses.
Mobile therapists in Scotland were not allowed to work for 13 months!
With the only options of setting up somewhere and completely changing their business model or finding a job somewhere completely different. Most chose the latter.
We also lost a whole year of newly qualified therapists.
Who would have completed their training in June 2020, right at the beginning of the first lockdown.
When the industry was making cuts, redundancies and certainly not taking on new employees.
Where did they go? What happened to them?
The industry was so unsettled and was facing so many unknowns at that time that it resulted, in people leaving the industry completely and working in other sectors.
Not all is lost, there is about to be a whole influx of newly trained therapists, qualifying from college. All bright eyed and bushy tailed bursting into the industry!
Should be exciting right?
You would think all of us with vacancies would be reaching out and grabbing these therapists with both hands!
We as an industry are not supporting these eager therapists.
We all want new employees to have a minimum of 2 years experience.
Turning these therapists away, disheartening and de-motivating them.
Which in turn will cause them to look for jobs elsewhere, moving away from the industry altogether.
How are these budding new therapists, meant to gain this experience if we do not help?
We need to come together as an industry and support them! Or else we risk loosing even more qualified therapists from the industry all together!

I call to my fellow industry recruiters to do the same, otherwise our businesses will suffer in the long term. With the effects devastating our industry for years to come.
I fear many will not see this threat to our industry or businesses untill it's too late.
Encourage therapists back to the job, open your doors to the newly qualififed.
